The Youth Council opened its' doors in 1986 in response to the growing number of homeless
and
runaway children who had been removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect or abandonment.
Our 3,500 sq. ft. facility is a temporary home to approximately 200 children each
year and in 17
years over 5,000 children and youth have found a safe, structured, and supportive living
environment.
Each child is treated with dignity and respect. We strive to help each child realize
that they are
lovable and that there are grown- ups that can be trusted.
We care for them until permanent living arrangements can be made or until they are
able to return
home. Our
kids are supported by a dedicated staff who help them to realize their full potential and
increase their self- confidence. Homeless youth are also offered tools to learn life's basic skills.
Services available through the shelter include:
Psychological, Medical
and Dental Evaluations
Level of Care Assessments
Drug and Alcohol Assessments
