It Shouldn't Hurt To Be A Child.

Volunteers & Mentors

We truly value volunteers! In fact, we couldn't take care of so many children without them! There are many ways to help and each volunteer establishes how often and how they want to help. Volunteers are especially amazing because they are new faces for the kids! The kids also know that volunteers don't get paid, that they are there because they want to be, because they care.

Individuals and groups are welcome. We ask that an application be completed and an informal interview will be scheduled at your convenience. Training is provided, dependant upon the job that has been chosen (mentoring, tutoring, assistance with activities, etc.) and the amount of time spent volunteering is entirely up to the volunteer.

Interacting with children who are living in a shelter and who have been hurt by the adults in their lives, is very rewarding. You have the opportunity to show them that there are good people in the world and that some adults can be trusted. It doesn't take a lot of time or a huge investment to do this for a child, it simply requires genuine caring and following through with what you have committed to do as a volunteer.

Volunteers are also utilitzed to serve as  mentors, positive role models for children and youth (in the community) who benefit from having another adult in their lives.

The volunteer application is below for your convenience. Please call 512.754.0500 or email info@gsmyc.org if you have questions.
